Volubilis This Western-most outpost of the Roman
Empire is a few hours from Fez, Morocco. Wheat fields and
sunflowers surrond well-preserved ruins with stupendous
mosaics.
Gnawas
and Blind Boys In an exciting conclusion to the
Festival, the local Gnawas players were asked to join the
Blind Boys from Alabama on stage for a series of
encores.
Musa Musa led an afternoon of energetic
relaxation at the Batha Museum with his brightly clad
band.
Crown
Prince Sidi Mohammed The King sent his eldest son to stand in
for him at the opening of the Festival. Months later, Sidi
Mohammed became King after his father's death.
Batha
Musée The Batha Museum, located near the
Medina, was packed with Festival attendees during
afternoons, with a courtyard shaded by a large
tree.
His
Majesty's Guardsmen The Royal Guardsmen take a break after
the opening of the 1999 Festival.
